Motorcyclist Killed By Custom Officers While Pursuing Smugglers


A sad news coming from Asu village,obafemi awolowo owode local government area, Ogun state, a vehicle belonging to the Nigeria custom service in operation crushed a motocylist okada man to death during custom and criminal chase.

The motocylist known as Juwon Mawunmi meet his waterloo and was dead after he was hit by custom vehicle during a chase of smugglers.

According to information gathered, the operatives of federal operating units of NCS  were also involved in the sad fatal accident that  occurred. Information reaching us is that the federal operating units (FOU) were chasing some criminals, rice smugglers when their vehicle mistakingly crushed the 35yearold man to death.

However a lawyer from the deceased family Ganiyu Kusanwo said the late Juwon was going on his own on the main road on his motorcycle which was his another stream of income. He stated that Juwon was at the junction of Asu village when the customs officers who were chasing rice criminals crushed him to death with their vehicle because the driver loose control and was driving recklessly.

He also said the deceased sustained serious injury in his hands and legs and also his face was damaged be young recognition and his also ribs were damaged  .

The deceased family lawyer Kusanwo narrate how the custom officers took the deceased to the Ijaye general hospital and he was rejected. They then take him to federal medical centre In Abeokuta where he was finally pronounced dead. He was dropped by the officers and they all ran away.

As at the time of tbis report, the public relation officer of NCS, Ogun command 1, Ahmed Oloyede could not be reached. Meanwhile the states police public relation officers DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the report has not reached her table.

However the Ogun state house of assembly has complained and urged the state governor Dapo Abiodun with the members of the national assembly of the state to immediately Intervene in the recent killings of the innocent residents of the border by custom officers and NCS  men.

The speaker house of assembly Olakunle Oluomo made this known while responding the presentation from the state law makers from Ogun west senatorial district during a plenary at the state house of assembly complex Abeokuta.

Recall, the youth under the auspices of the state chapter of the national youth council recently staged a protest against killing of their youth and the people of the state by the men and officers of Nigeria customs.

A group was led by its chairman, Jabar Ayelagbe who made a formal presentation of their resolution on the act that they later described unacceptable and go against human rights to Olakunle Oluomo, speaker of the house of assembly Ogun state.
